Positive impact of clean energy on the environment

Positive impact of clean energy on the environment:

The Greenhouse Effect

It is well known that obtaining energy from the use of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas has generated what is known as the greenhouse effect.

This greenhouse effect consists of the constant increase in the temperature of the Earth's atmosphere caused by the accumulation of gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), sulphur dioxide (SO2) and methane (CH4), which absorb heat from the Earth's surface and reflect it back towards the Earth.

The increase in temperature, in turn, causes the melting of glacier ice, changes in winds and ocean currents, leading to the extinction of both animal and plant species.

New eco-friendly alternatives

For this reason, other sources of energy called clean or renewable have started to be developed, a field in which progress is being made. REGENERA since they do not generate toxic waste like the greenhouse gases produced by fossil fuels.

Among the sources of clean energy are

  • Solar energy: It involves the use of solar panels that absorb photons emitted by sunlight and generate electrons, thus transforming solar energy into electrical energy.
  • Hydropower It involves using river currents to move large turbines, which produce electricity when they spin.
  • Wave energy: Like hydroelectric power, it involves harnessing the kinetic energy of water to transform it into electrical energy. In this case, it's the movement of the waves that spins the electricity generating engines.
  • Tidal energy This energy source also transforms the energy contained in water into electrical energy; here, tidal changes are used to move pistons that generate electricity.
  • Wind energy: Similar to the previous ones, this type of energy uses the force of the wind to move large turbines and generate electricity.
  • Geothermal energy: This energy harnesses the heat originating from the Earth's core, heating underground water currents and producing water vapour to generate electrical energy.

What impact do clean energies have?

The positive impact generated by these alternative energy sources is immense as, on the one hand, it prevents the emission of greenhouse gases, thereby slowing global warming and its catastrophic consequences for the environment.

Serious accidents such as the spillage of tonnes of oil, resulting from ship collisions or ruptures in pipelines and gas pipelines, which kill a large proportion of terrestrial and marine fauna, endangering its continuity on the planet, are also avoided.

Furthermore, it avoids the destruction of large areas of ecosystems, as happens with coal mines which, during their extraction, cause damage such as soil erosion and contamination of river sources, wiping out fauna and flora in adjacent sectors, and even affecting the health of populations near these mines.

It is our responsibility to support and promote the use of these clean energies if we do not want the planet to reach conditions where any form of life is impossible.
