The world is moving towards a cleaner, more efficient, and sustainable energy model. Along this path, green hydrogen has become one of the main protagonists. Produced from renewable energy and water, without generating polluting emissions, this energy carrier promises to revolutionise key sectors such as industry, mobility, and electricity generation.

Unlike grey hydrogen – produced using fossil fuels – green hydrogen is obtained through water electrolysis, a process that separates hydrogen and oxygen using electricity from renewable sources. The result: versatile, clean, and storable energy.

One of our most recent milestones has been the installation of an autonomous, safe, and sustainable energy system capable of producing, storing, and utilising green hydrogen as a backup energy source. The system combines:

  • Electrolyser – transforms water and renewable energy into green hydrogen.
  • Fuel cell – converts that hydrogen into electricity when needed.
  • Storage tanks – for flexible and safe storage of hydrogen and oxygen.

This type of installation marks a real advance towards a cleaner and more resilient energy model, where innovation and sustainability go hand in hand.

Collaboration and technological innovation

Regenera's commitment to green hydrogen is also reflected in its collaboration with the National Hydrogen Centre (CNH) in Puertollano, where the company's innovation team has had the opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of advances in high-temperature SOEC electrolysers.

These systems, capable of operating at temperatures between 500 and 850 °C, utilise thermal energy to reduce the amount of electrical energy required, increasing efficiency by up to 30 % more than traditional technologies. Furthermore, they enable co-electrolysis processes, converting water and CO₂ into syngas, a mixture that can be used as an industrial feedstock.

Engaging with and participating in these lines of research positions Regenera at the forefront of green hydrogen production solutions, contributing to the design of more efficient, sustainable, and scalable systems.
