Caravaca de la Cruz is a city in Murcia known for its historical and cultural heritage, but also for its commitment to renewable energies. On March 20th, a new project was inaugurated in this town. Solar photovoltaic park which has the capacity to supply the annual energy consumption of 3,300 homes, with which Caravaca de la Cruz joins the energy transition.
The solar power plant, located next to the Cañada Lentisco electrical substation. It covers an area of almost ten hectares and it has more than 12,000 solar panels spread across 306 arrays. The investment has been made by Redexis, a company dedicated to the development and operation of energy infrastructure.
The construction and installation project has been developed by Regenera, a Murcian company that specialises in renewable energies and has been working in the sector for over 15 years. According to its owners, Francisco David Gallego and Enrique Fernández, «this solar farm is one of the largest they have undertaken so far, and it represents a technical and logistical challenge». Also involved in this project were IASOL Renewable Energies y Estanabell Energy.
According to Redexis, the solar park will provide the grid with an estimated production of 11,000 megawatt peak (MWp) per year, which is equivalent to the annual consumption of 3,300 households</a> This represents 500 vehicles. Furthermore, it will prevent the emission of more than 4,000 tonnes of CO2 annually into the atmosphere, thereby contributing to the fight against climate change.
The mayor of Caravaca, José Francisco García, has highlighted that this project represents «another step in the municipality's commitment to environmental and economic sustainability» and has grateful to Redexis and Regenera «its commitment to Caravaca as a strategic territory for the development of clean energies.».
For his part, the Deputy General Manager of Redexis Group, Fernando Bergasa, stated that this solar park is «the first one we have built in Murcia and forms part of our strategic plan to promote renewable projects across Spain.» Furthermore, he affirmed that Redexis is «committed to sustainable development and to offering innovative solutions to facilitate the energy transition.».
With this initiative, Caravaca joins the growing number of Spanish municipalities that are committed to renewable energies as an alternative and environmentally friendly source. The photovoltaic solar park is another example of Spain's potential to harness natural resources and generate clean and cheap electricity.
