CAE system
What is the CAE System?
The Energy Saving Certificate System (CAE) is a tool promoted by the Ministry for Ecological Transition (MITECO) that certifies each kWh of final energy saved after implementing energy efficiency improvements.
1 CAE = 1 kWh/year saved. And the best thing: this certificate has an economic value and can be sold on the market.
Why is it so interesting for companies?
Here are some compelling reasons:
- Direct reduction of energy costs
- Generating additional income by selling the CAEs
- Improving the cash flow and ROI of your green investments
- Complies with current and future energy efficiency standards
- You reinforce your commitment to sustainability (and your reputation).
In addition, many of these actions may be subsidised or benefit from other public aid.
What kind of actions can generate AECs?
This system rewards real energy efficiency. Some common measures you can implement:
- Replace your lighting with LEDs
- Improving the thermal insulation of your premises or building
- Changing your old boiler to aerothermal energy
- Optimising air-conditioning or refrigeration systems
- Implementing frequency inverters
- Automating industrial processes
Who can manage a CAE?
The AECs are to be managed by the so-called "Delegated Subjects".
Regenera is a Delegated Subject of the CAE System (Energy Saving Certificates).
This means that we can directly manage the entire process for your organisation to access the benefits of the CAE scheme, transforming your energy efficiency actions into concrete financial savings and official certificates.
*In this article you can see the importance of choosing a Delegated Subject as Regenera for CAE Management: Importance of choosing a delegatee
How does the process work?
With a Delegated Subject such as REGENERA, the process is much easier than it sounds:
- Possible improvements to your facilities are identified
- The following actions are carried out
- The technical dossier of the CAE is prepared
- A verifying entity verifies that the savings are real
- Officially registered and CAE issued
Estimated timeframe: 3 to 6 months from start.
Who is behind the system?
The CAE ecosystem is composed of several actors:
- Regulated entities (energy companies)
- Delegated Subjects (companies certified to process CAEs on your behalf)
- End users (companies like yours)
- Verifying entities (technically validating the savings)
- OMIE and MITECO, which manage the market and regulation
Monetise your savings: how to sell CAEs
Once you have your CAEs, you can sell them on the market to companies obliged to reduce their consumption or contribute to the National Energy Efficiency Fund.
The price per PPA varies according to supply and demand, but it is a real and growing revenue stream for efficient companies.
Save energy, gain competitiveness, boost your sustainability
The CAE system is more than aid: it is a strategy for medium-term profitability and reputation.
- You save energy
- You recover part of the investment in energy efficiency
- You comply with the regulations
- You reduce your carbon footprint
- And you communicate this as part of your environmental commitment.
